Why participate?

I have ideas and solutions

Innovation and productivity are the drivers of economic growth. They thrive where diverse networks of businesses, ideas, people and organizations interact; consider the Ideas Festival as the collision of the minds that instigates change.

I care about the future of Atlantic Canada

Atlantic Canada's aging demographic means young people need to increasingly take on positions of leadership in business and government. The need to collaborate has never been greater to build that critical mass required to attract foreign investment, build economies of scale and repatriate our talent.

The world is changing rapidly everyday

The rapid pace of economic and social change, including the rise of developing countries, is forcing us to more effectively stimulate, communicate and apply new ideas. Importantly, there is no consensus around which ideas should be used.

Aim for the dreamers, not the bargain hunters

Looking at a strong multicultural society--Moncton immigration

State of the population of New Brunswick

Strategies: - welcoming communities - high retention - immigration (focus on greater Moncton)

Challenges with low language efficiency, professional credentials

Need: leadership - role of municipalities (they have the resources to leverage provincial and federal support) - need to attract the right immigrants (depending on the needs of the community) - building a welcoming community: businesses, schools, organizations...

Moving ahead in greater Moncton: - immigration summit - the different actors don't have all the resources needed - some collaboration between actors - in need of an immigration center

"I'm attending the Ideas Festival because it's the best event in Canada to get inspired by the collision of diverse informed perspectives on key issues for our region and country. Learning to collaborate across many boundaries is critical for success today and into the future – and the Ideas Festival is an exceptional place to build strong collaboration muscles!"

- Susan Holt, CEO of the New Brunswick Business Council
